Pediatric heart surgeon Stephanie Fuller, MD, performed all of Ben's surgeries, altering the circulation system so Ben's heart functions as a one-sided pump. This is called Fontan circulation.
The surgeries are life saving for children with single ventricle heart defects such as hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS).
